Pessimism and Protocol

Postponing corrective  medical procedures further into one's lifespan is akin to trying to make a blanket longer by cutting off the top and sewing it onto the bottom.

Mangled Mind

I've gotten used to nonsensical manifestations of the English language and circular reasoning (to use the term loosely), because I read the "Sound Off"  column in the daily paper.  But my sense that our language is dying became intensified yesterday at the TV scroll advising of a weather warning "that will expire until further notice."  It is a memo, of course, with space constraints, but still somebody put those words together, and that's a frightening thought.

What's that sound?

No, it's not the sound of one hand clapping; it's the sound of one knee clicking.

The Sign of Three

Parathyroid Hormone, Vitamin D, and Calcium level are somehow interwoven to effect some process which remains somewhat debatable.  Or so it seems.......

Miley and Me

Poor Miley Cyrus is still in the hospital, and crying because she hates it there, wants to be on her music tour.  Reportedly, she is hospitalized because of a severe reaction she had to the antibiotic she was prescribed for a sinus infection. The antibiotic was Cephalexin.  I sympathize: I took the same prescription for a dental cleaning on Tuesday, and it kind of wrecked me too, for a while.

Dream on.

Today I saw the woman who is in large part responsible for my having knee surgery.  I first met her exactly one year ago, on Election Day 2012.  She'd had both knees replaced, four months apart, and is ecstatic with the results, as she was a year ago.  She is evidently in love with the surgeon; she refers to him by his first name.  She says she was not only pleased with the surgical results, but was thrilled to have awoken from the anesthesia seeing his face by her bedside.  Story of my life---I miss out on a lot of things.  My memory of waking up from the anesthesia is having the  disembodied voice of a nurse asking if I could move the toes on my right foot.  I tried, but no, I couldn't.  She asked if I could move the toes on my left, unoperated side, but no, I couldn't do that either, at that point.  I didn't care, though.  So I wasn't worried, but where is the romance in that interchange??
